NAFTA (TN Visas)
A special category has been set up for nationals of Canada and Mexico under the provision of the North American Free Trade Agreement. This provision allows individuals pursuing employment in particular fields to enter the U.S.

Overview: Mexican and Canadian citizens who are coming to the United States with a job offer in a professional position are eligible for the TN Visa. Professional positions that qualify for the TN visa include Accountants, Architects, Systems Analysts, and Engineers. For a complete list of qualifying occupationsclick here.

Procedures: For Canadians seeking TN Visas, the procedure requires that the applicant bring evidence of their job offer, credentials, and Canadian citizenship to the U.S/ Canadian border upon entry. If eligible, the applicant will be issued an I-94 for a one-year stay in the United States. Applicants may also seek pre- approval in the United States by submitting a visa application to the USCIS prior to the applicant’s entry. For Mexicans, the procedure is similar to an H-1B application and requires pre-approval by the Department of Labor and the USCIS prior to the applicant’s entry into the United States.
